Well, Grease was a runaway success! We sold out every night, and on Saturday we had a (literally) full house; we sold all of our pre-printed ticket, so we resorted to making tickets on pieces of scrap paper so that people could get in! Ticket sales probably raised over $1000 for the Drama Dpt., which is awesome.
Thursday night was amazing! We had a huge audience, and the show went down (almost) without a hitch. The only real problem was that a cuckoo clock sound clip was played instead of a police siren, but we worked through it onstage. The cast was full of energy, the audience interacted well with us, and everybody had a lot of fun!
Again, Friday was awesome. We had an even bigger audience, and since it was a Friday, the audience and the cast alike were full of energy. The audience seemed to really enjoy the show! After the show, we had our cast dinner, and Cara came along with Claire and I. It was so much fun…we hadn’t seen eachother in such a long time, so it was nice to have a little reunion. There’s an awesome picture of us both on Facebook, check it out!
Saturday was interesting. There was a good deal of stuff that (unfortunately) went down before the show, and kind of put a damper on some of our spirits. We had our biggest audience on Saturday, and we were almost to the point of standing-room-only. Closing night is always hard on me, especially for this show because it was so much fun. I wasn’t at the top of my game that night, and I dropped a line at the very end! If I had picked up that line, I would have had a perfect three-show run. The seniors reverted all of Blasko’s script edits since it was their last performance, which really enraged her. I’ll admit that it kind of threw me off since we had never rehearsed it that way before. She brought Mr. Batenga in during intermission to tell us to perform “as we had been directed”, but he honestly didn’t seem to care that much. I have a feeling that Blasko asked him to come in, and he had nothing to say. =P
One of the unique things about this show is that I really enjoyed myself onstage. Maybe it’s because I’ve been performing for so long, but it’s kind of lost it’s “razzle dazzle”…until this show. I had so much fun onstage, and I was so looking forward to performing, and I think that it helped boost my energy and improve my performance. I had a lot of fun working on this show! I’m just sad that we couldn’t run longer, because there were some people who I wanted to see the show who couldn’t make it.
I’ll admit that I came into production week with one thing on my mind: We’re screwed. Amazingly, we pulled it together and put up and amazing show. I’m so proud of everybody, and I hate to see this show end (I’m going to miss so many of the seniors!)…here’s to many more awesome productions!
