Happy iDay!

Happy iDay!

God…I really want one of these things. :( I want to drive by the AT&T Store on Dobbin and see the line, but I’m called at rehearsal soon.

Since I can’t get the real thing, I’ve been keeping my Razr in an “iPhone case”, available from the iPhone Countdown site.

Ghetto iPhone

Only two hours, 41 minutes, and 58 seconds more! :D

Guess What?

It all worked out.  Congrats on a pretty good first show, guys.  We can only get better from here! :)

Dry, Itchy Crotch

The weather out here is freaking disgusting. It’s been hovering around 90 degrees with humidity of more than 50%.

The pleasantness that I am filled with when I walk outside resembles that of a dry, itchy crotch. ((Yes, I stole this from dooce.)) It also has not rained in two weeks. Although summer droughts are not uncommon in Maryland and I have learned to live with them, I do still enjoy an occasional thunder storm.

Tonight is opening night for The Music Man! I’m pretty excited….I know all of my lines and all of the sound chinks have been worked out. I do, however, loathe my costume. It’s quite hot and stuffy.

Hot, stuffy suits and dry, itchy crotch weather do not mix well. I guess the combination of those two result in something along the lines of gonorrhea.

it’s hot

hot

the weather is hot.

people’s blood is boiling.

someone is going to explode tomorrow.

I Will Never Have Children

“Wow, I’m going to have a lot of things to blog about tonight.”

Today was our very first attempt at a technical run-through at rehearsal. I was surprised, because all things considered, it went pretty well. I was scrambling around trying to fix mic packs and get my lines in and do a bunch of stuff, so I’m exhausted right now and this post might be a little…short and choppy, because I’m a bit groggy right now.

First off: Little kids + microphones = BAD THINGS. Instead of giving an in-depth explanation, I will simply make a list of all of today’s child-related microphone incidents catastrophes:

  1. Breaking clips off of mics for no apparent reason.
  2. Picking up other people’s mics.
  3. Randomly tapping on your mic.
  4. Randomly singing into your mic.
  5. Randomly re-arranging/picking at your microphone.
  6. Leaning into metal things for no reason.
  7. Putting microphones onto your lips for “better reception”.
  8. Coming up to me every five minutes and asking if you get a microphone.

Notice that the majority of these actions were unmotivated (a.k.a. they were “random” or “without reason”).

But other than that, everything is working out okay.  I just reworked my microphone plot because it turns out that we have another microphone, which is great news.  The costumes all look great, too.  I don’t have one yet, but I’m guessing it’s going to be somewhere along the lines of a suit.

Lights also come up tomorrow, which is going to be fun.  There aren’t too many lights, so it’s not going to be a big complicated progress, but it’s always fun to have stage lights.  Also tomorrow, our photographer is coming in to do portraits and candids, which, again, is always fun.

The show is really starting to come together…we just need to WHIP THESE FREAKING KIDS INTO LINE AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC help the younger children to understand things from our perspective and hopefully then they will cooperate more easily.

alli? No Thanks!

Have you heard of the new alli weight-loss pill (Note the hip lowercase name)?

The pill blocks your body from absorbing fats, which means that you have less calories entering your body. It sounds like a pretty cool idea, except for the fact that you end up pooping and farting oil and fat/lipid (see? Biology class is useful for something!). And if that’s not enough incentive to use it, you also cannot control your frequent onslaughts of gas/defecation. You’re killing two birds with one stone! [/sarcasm]

Maybe it’s just me, but that sounds utterly disgusting. I stick to the traditional exercise mere and eat healthier methods. Why? Because I’ve had diarrhea before and it was not a particularly enjoyable experience. And I’ve never pooped out “something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza”, nor would I like to experience it.

And the saddest part? It’s flying off the shelves.

Microsoft Surface: WTF?

Microsoft announced the Microsoft Surface earlier this year. There’s been…a bit of hype around it, but not nearly as much as there is around the iPhone (5 more days!!!).

Apparently, it’s this big touch-screen table that lets you do…stuff. I actually can’t really figure out what you can do. The website shows people organizing photos and videos and music, as well as getting directions and painting smiley faces. So is it a digital media hub? It also shows people in a restaurant putting cups on the table and watching little bubbles pop onto the screen, and then putting credit cards onto the screen and magically paying. It’s also supposed to let you order food from your table. But wait, there’s more! There are demos that show people transferring music from their Zunes (those things are crap, nobody’s gonna be using them in three years) and digital cameras to other Zunes/cameras/phones/etc.

So, umm…what is this thing? A magic touch-screen $10,000 table that lets you paint faces and get directions and pay bills? Sounds kind of weird, if you ask me.

A Summer of Running

My running program has been on hiatus, recently. Last week, rehearsals started. Since most of the younger kids in the cast went to public school and still had classes going on, rehearsals were at night from 6:00 – 8:30 every weekday. It was nice, because I didn’t have to get up before dawn in order to get ready for rehearsals, and they also weren’t painfully long.

But, they did basically take up most of my nighttime.

Basically, I had to have all of my homework (yes, we do still have homework in high school the week before school lets out) before 5:00, because I would get home around 9:00 and be exhausted, which left no time for running.

Now that school is out, however, I have freedom at night again because rehearsals are during the day, meaning that I can run again! Last week, I ran on Saturday and Thursday, and today (Friday) was the first day that I’ve run this week. It’s pathetic.

I’m very excited to be able to run again; running helps be get rid of all the stress that I’ve managed to accumulate over the past day or two, and it’s just fun! The endorphins put me in a great mood and, although I’m usually exhausted immediately after a run, it gives me more energy.

Running ShoesI do, however, need a new pair of running shoes. Somehow, I’ve managed to make this pair last more than a year, but I’m starting to get the holes in the inside heel of my shoe. Right now, I’m running with Asics GEL-Nimbus 9 shoes, or something similar to those. I couldn’t find my exact variety, but the ones that I am using are also more than a year old. As you can see, mine are red and grey (click for larger photograph), but they’re basically the same design. I’ve been running with Asics for two years now, and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I’m probably going to go back and get more of this brand, also (I really like the blue shoe pictured at the link above).

As you may remember, I tried to start a running program last summer, but it failed miserably. This year is going to be different! Here’s to a summer of running!
