I Will Never Have Children

“Wow, I’m going to have a lot of things to blog about tonight.”

Today was our very first attempt at a technical run-through at rehearsal. I was surprised, because all things considered, it went pretty well. I was scrambling around trying to fix mic packs and get my lines in and do a bunch of stuff, so I’m exhausted right now and this post might be a little…short and choppy, because I’m a bit groggy right now.

First off: Little kids + microphones = BAD THINGS. Instead of giving an in-depth explanation, I will simply make a list of all of today’s child-related microphone incidents catastrophes:

  1. Breaking clips off of mics for no apparent reason.
  2. Picking up other people’s mics.
  3. Randomly tapping on your mic.
  4. Randomly singing into your mic.
  5. Randomly re-arranging/picking at your microphone.
  6. Leaning into metal things for no reason.
  7. Putting microphones onto your lips for “better reception”.
  8. Coming up to me every five minutes and asking if you get a microphone.

Notice that the majority of these actions were unmotivated (a.k.a. they were “random” or “without reason”).

But other than that, everything is working out okay.  I just reworked my microphone plot because it turns out that we have another microphone, which is great news.  The costumes all look great, too.  I don’t have one yet, but I’m guessing it’s going to be somewhere along the lines of a suit.

Lights also come up tomorrow, which is going to be fun.  There aren’t too many lights, so it’s not going to be a big complicated progress, but it’s always fun to have stage lights.  Also tomorrow, our photographer is coming in to do portraits and candids, which, again, is always fun.

The show is really starting to come together…we just need to WHIP THESE FREAKING KIDS INTO LINE AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC help the younger children to understand things from our perspective and hopefully then they will cooperate more easily.
