Homecoming 2007

…was amazing!

The parade started at 10, and the drama float was definitely the best! We had a trellis that was covered in flowers, and the “bride and groom” stood under it with a huge wedding cake in front of them as promo for the fall play (photo here). It was amazing! We ran out of candy before the parade ended, though, but it was alright. And, guess what. We won the float contest! The SGA is going to donate $100 to the drama dept. tomorrow morning. Go us!

After the parade was the pancake breakfast thing sponsored by the juniors. I didn’t go because I wasn’t hungry, but Vicki went and took forever to eat. After that, we (Teresa, Vicki, Sara, Emily and I) decided to go get milkshakes at Chic-Fil-A. In doing so, we encountered Geoffry the Giraffe at Toys-R-Us and then we had to run across the highway and almost get killed, even though THERE WAS A CROSSWALK JESUS CHRIST!

After almost getting killed for milkshakes, we all headed to Target to get purple hair color for the game and black stuff to write on our faces with. My purple hair looked like a baby had dyed it (thanks, Vicki), but Teresa’s looked pretty cool. We won the homecoming game, which was great.

The dance was pretty cool, too, but it was REALLY HOT and the music kinda sucked. There were a bunch of cool people there, so I guess it was pretty awesome. I can’t wait until next year!

(See all my pictures from the weekend here…you can see it even if you don’t have a Facebook.)

Upgrade Madness

Alright, so the upgrade to WP2.3 has been stressful and has broken my categories…somehow, they don’t display on the home page, but they do on the category pages.  Some of the plugins that I use are screwey, and I don’t know how to really fix any of it.  Hopefully I can get this all figured out soon.  I’m so frustrated!

Dear George…

Please don’t dump Callie next week.  I like you two together, but I also like you and Izzie (she’s hot!).  Callie seems to be having a rough time.  Support her and play with Izzie on the side, maybe?  Or sit them both down and decide to become a polygamist…I don’t care.  Just don’t dump Callie!

See? What Did I Tell You?

I’ve just upgraded to WordPress 2.3, and I’m already having problems….the upgrade screwed something up with my categories.  Crap-o!

This might take a while to fix…other than that, everything should be okay.  If it’s not, please email me!

Sweet Holy Jesus!

I’ve been single for two years?

Wow, its been a long time! But I think I like being single better…more freedom and independence. Go being single!

Blah

Things around here have been super crazy and relatively calm. Yeah, I know that sounds weird.

I saw The Wedding Singer at the Hippidrome last night, and it was amazing! The cast was fantastic, and the choreography was probably some of the best that I’ve seen. The understudy Laura was amazing, too! There were some sound problems, though. Some of the mics kept cutting out, but it didn’t happen often enough to be a major hindrance.

School has been crazier than I expected it to be…I’m a busy person this year! English class is giving me TONS of homework, and so is algebra. My two least-favorite classes. Coincidence? I think not! The workload from my other classes is alright, but it’s definitely bigger than last year. Plus, rehearsals are taking up a lot of my time. They’re fun, though, so it’s not as bad. My PSAT class is also taking up two precious Tuesday hours…the class has a lot of good tips to offer, but it’s really boring. One of the teachers is pretty annoying. Luckily, I only have two or three more weeks of that.

And, finally, WordPress 2.3 is coming out soon.  Expect some downtime sometime in the next few days while I try to fix everything that’s going to break.

I’m also going to start writing my next Vlog episode.  My first two have been pretty popular, actually.  Vlogging about current events (Jena 6, censorship/free speech) can bring in tons of views.  My next topic: lose the tasers.

The ongoing Jena 6 controversy evokes three emotions into my mind: disgust, helplessness, and amazement.

I continue to be disgusted that this is an issue in the first place. I don’t understand how anybody could say that this trial does not have racial motives behind it; black kids are charged with attempted murder, battery, etc. because they got into a fight with a white kid. You’ve got to be kidding me! This happens every day at Long Reach…people get into fights and rough each other up. No matter what their ethnicities are, law enforcement is never involved. But when this happens in an area with a history of racial tension, the black kids are thrown in jail…it’s an outrage! What’s even more disgusting is that the white students who hung nooses from a tree weren’t charged with committing a hate crime, which that most definitely was.

On the other hand, I’m completely amazed at what we’ve been able to do so far. This conflict has been going on for over a year now, but had received almost no mainstream media attention prior to last month, when the bloggers, vloggers, podcasters, and other Internet-users (including myself) raised awareness. This whole thing is getting the level of attention that it is getting (not enough that it deserves, though) because of the amazing power of the Internet and the power of the blogosphere and websites like YouTube and Facebook (yes, I originally got this story off of Facebook last month). This is a great example of the power of citizen journalism, and this is why I love blogging. It allows the people to bring attention to things that they feel are important.

But most importantly, I still feel helpless. I’m planning on buying a t-shirt or button from the CafePress store, but that’s really all that I can do. I don’t have extra cash to donate for attorney fees, but if I could then I would donate it in a heartbeat. I wanted so badly to go to the rally yesterday, but I didn’t have the money to go down to Jena, but I would have skipped school if I had the opportunity to go to the rally. So, where does this leave me? I can blog and post vlogs to YouTube, but how much can this really help? Although I’m amazed by what we’ve been able to do so far, I want to do more.

But for now, I’m doing all that I can.

The Lion’s Den

Algebra SUCKS.

MS MAYER IS FROM THE DEVIL!Ms. Mayer is probably the most rude, obnoxious teacher that I have ever been forced to work with. Not only that, but her grading policy is insanely tough! I got a 2/3 on my homework today (second 66% in a row) because ONE of my problems had an answer written in a fraction instead of a decimal or something dumb like that…I even had the answer right in terms of fractions, but since I couldn’t read her mind and know that she didn’t want it in this form, I’m now failing Algebra. If my calculations are correct, I have a D+ (or a C- if I’m lucky)…  And plus, she gets all offended when we don’t come talk to her after school for extra help.  I have a feeling that she doesn’t understand that some people are busy after school.  I’m going to have rehearsals almost every day from now until December, and I can’t really skip that to go be insulted by a teacher and not gain anything from the experience.

And it’s not like I’m not trying or I don’t get what we’re doing…I really do study and go over my notes. With the exception of one problem that I accidentally skipped (which earned me the first 2/3 from that satanic woman), I’ve done all of the homework and put forth my hardest effort in that class!

I can’t comprehend why I continue to perform horribly in math classes year after year.  If I can pull a 93% in Chemistry, why do I suck at math?
