Destroying the Web 2.0 Look

How To Destroy the Web 2.0 Look – I was thinking of doing this for my next design (coming in 2008, after Christmas).  What do you think?

I’m Done.

Listen,
To the song here in my heart
A melody I’ve start
But can’t complete

Listen, to the sound from deep within
It’s only beginning
To find release

The time has come
for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside and turned
Into your own
all cause you won’t listen.

Listen,
I am alone at a crossroads
I’m not at home, in my own home
And I tried and tried
To say whats on my mind
You should have known
Now I’m done believing you
You don’t know what I’m feeling
I’m more than what, you made of me
I followed the voice
you gave to me
But now I gotta find, my own..

You should have listened
There is someone here inside
Someone I’d thought had died
So long ago

Oh I’m screaming out, for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside or worse
Into your own
All cause you won’t
Listen…

I don’t know where I belong
But I’ll be moving on
If you don’t….
If you won’t….

Listen
To the song here in my heart
A melody I’ve start
But I will complete

Oh,
Now I’m done believing you
You don’t know what I’m feeling
I’m more than what, you made of me
I followed the voice, you think you gave to me
But now I gotta find, my own..
my own…

College, College, College

This kind of exciting…I’m at the age now where I’m getting tons of emails from colleges. I’ve been getting six or seven every day from a variety of different schools all over the nation that offer tons of different things. Unfortunately, many of them are religious schools, but the majority of them are not. I’m kind of disappointed because Gmail has been catching tons of college emails in its spam filter, so I have to go weed through ads advertising “vi4gra f0r cheep” and emails that promise me the ability to “sh00t lyke os4m4″ to find some of these messages, but it’s not that big of a deal. Here are the schools that have contacted me already:

  • Hood College
  • Messiah College
  • Villa Julie
  • Flagler College
  • Elon College
  • York College
  • Goucher College
  • University of Rochester
  • Ursinus College
  • Seton Hall University
  • Roanoke College
  • University of Miami
  • Drexel University
  • St. John’s University
  • University of the Arts (Philadelphia)

Flagler has really caught my eye. The campus (located in St. Augustine, FL) looks beautiful and they seem to have a pretty strong theater program. UArts is also up there, because (according to Graham), they have an awesome program that gives you a lot of freedom. Plus, you can minor in design/typography, which is something that I might want to pick up as a fallback plan in case theater doesn’t work out. Of course, all of my options are still open at this point, but I’m trying to start doing research and gathering information about colleges early so I’m not rushed when it’s time to apply.

Money is also probably going to be a deciding factor in my college choice. I’m not going to be able to pay through the roof for an education, so I’m going to start saving up early. Since I’m hope to be working by the summer, that’ll give me plenty of time to start saving (plus, I don’t want to have my parents pay for everything). A scholarship would also definitely be nice. :)

Houston, We Have a Problem

Even though there are still 36 days until Christmas, I’ve already begun thinking about Christmas presents for everybody (I know, it’s kind of early….the early bird gets the worm!). I decided that I’m going to order a book of my photography for my parents, and Blurb seems to be my publisher of choice. It seems simple enough; download the software, upload the book, and they’ll ship you “bookstore-quality” copies of your book.

So, I downloaded the software and I’m selecting photographs and everything is fine and dandy, right? I launch the software and it seems simple enough to use, and everything is going great. Then, I try to import a photo to a page, and it takes 90 seconds to import one photograph for one page. Keep in mind, I’m going to have about 30 pages in this book, so that’s 45 minutes of just importing, not designing and editing. Plus, the importing takes up almost all of the available CPU resources on my computer, so I have to sit there and wait until it imports (and besides, the software is pretty slow in general).

I’m hoping that I’m doing something wrong and I botched up a setting, because I really want to use Blurb. It’s actually pretty cheap for a custom book, and the samples on their website look pretty amazing. I think it’ll make an awesome Christmas gift, too! Hopefully the software will start to work, because I don’t know where else I can do this with so much creative reign (iPhoto and Flickr let you buy prints and albums etc., but I don’t think you very much control over them).

One thing that is going pretty well, however, is my Christmas design. I’ll leave you with a thumbnail preview below. Enjoy!

xmas preview

ohmygosh. Really?

I heard the first Christmas song of the season on the radio today. It was amazing. The song was one of those horrible pop renditions of “Sleigh Ride” on 101.9 Light-FM, but it was Christmas music nonetheless. I thought they didn’t start playing Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, but I guess I was wrong.

I love 101.9 because they play Christmas carols 24/7 during the Christmas season/December. Although they do have the occasional techno/dance carol, it’s mostly the Christmas classics (tons of them), performed by tons of different artists. It’s great because I don’t have to go and buy tons of Christmas songs from iTunes, although I still do buy a few. Plus, my favorite nighttime DJ, Fran, is on 101.9. She has a soothing voice that’s nice to fall asleep to.

So, anyway, I heard the song on the way home, and I rushed inside and found all of my Christmas music in my iTunes library and turned it on right away, and I’ve been listening to Christmas music for the past two-and-a-half hours. It’s amazing. I’ve also been working on my Christmas layout. I was having some major designer’s block over the past two weeks, but I’ve figured it out now and I have an awesome design that I’m actually really proud of. I can’t wait until it goes live on December 1!

It’s also finally begun to get chilly around here, and I got to wear my new coats this week! As usual, I look amazingly stunning in both of them (duh!), especially the brown one. It hasn’t snowed yet (or even been close to being below freezing), but it’s still pretty early. We did, however, get our first frost of the season a week or two ago.  I can’t wait for Christmas…only 37 more days!  :]

Dear College Admissions Officers…

Thanks for sending me all of your admissions booklets and free information packets and emails and everything. It’s all been very helpful, and I enjoy hearing from smaller colleges that I otherwise would not have known existed. I just have one request…please stop inviting me to your “exclusive Roman Catholic” or “historic Lutheran” or “[insert fancy adjective here] [insert religion here]” colleges. I’ve marked “Atheist/Agnostic” on all of the forms that I’ve had to fill out regarding my information that would be sent to admissions officers just like yourselves, so I really have no idea why you’re contacting me. I have little to no desire to go bible-thump for four years; although you may represent a fine educational institution, religious universities tend to be very conservative and I am anything but (I would probably offend you all with my “God Uses a Mac” shirt!).

Love,
Me

It Feels Good To Be Free

Amen. I loved Grey’s Anatomy this week (and Ugly Betty, too). I felt like there was tons of emotional moments that were played off very well, and I really enjoyed them. Plus, I really like the whole “high school” analogy. The scary thing is that they were pretty much on target…that’s like high school really is. I’m not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s definitely a thing.

I’m going to say this first and foremost: BAILEY IS THE MAN! Jeez, I love her. She kicks BUTT. I like Izzie when she’s not with George (who annoys me). Lexi and Derek annoy me, and Meredith does sometimes. I love Callie, Alex, and Miranda. Sloan is so-so.  George needs to get some balls and do something worth remembering, and I completely disagree that somebody named Danny should go into a coma forever (hello, that’s MY name!).

And what’s all this business about an “event” next week?  The preview looks great…I can’t wait until next Thursday.  :]
