Upon the conclusion of every year, I find it integral to reflect upon the events that have transpired over the past 366 days (leap year!). I have chosen to remember 2008 based upon the cultural facets that it defined for itself. I announced the categories nominees for my 2008 in review awards yesterday, and today I am proud to present the winners.
The winner(s) from each category are boldfaced.

Well folks, it’s that time of year again. I’m proud to present the nominees for my fifth annual (2007 2006 2005 [2004 is lost forever]) year-in-review post. This post is a retrospect of the aspects of pop culture that I feel most heavily defined 2008 and it covers everything from technology to entertainment.

For breakfast this morning, I made Elia’s Organic Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Waffle from Season 2. It was rather amazing. As Andrew would say, “It gave me a culinary boner!”
I woke up this morning and it really hit me: Christmas is in two days. I guess that’s the cost of growing up; the holiday season gets lost in the hustle and bustle of December, and by the time it hits you it’s almost too late. Although it is nice to not be constantly pining for presents for the entire month of December, I do genuinely enjoy the atmosphere of Christmas and the joy that it brings. And now, there are really only two (three, if you count today) days left of it. December 26 may possibly be my least favorite day of the year because everything is just…over. Most of the celebrations are over and the thrill of presents has begun to wear off. Life just gets normal again. Of course, there is always New Years, but that’s never been too large of an affair to me.
That being said, I am looking forward to my 2008 year-in-review post (my fifth annual!). Have a safe and happy Christmas, Internet.
I’m rather upset with you, old friend. Your current collection has really let me down. Maybe it’s just because the men’s section of the Columbia store takes up like 1/8 of the store, but I felt that there was nothing good when I visited you today. There were tons of t-shirts (in December? really?) and plain boring hoodies. I want more vests and shirts and patterns and colors.
Express, on the other hand, really pleased me. If their shirts didn’t clost $60 then I would have bought, like, seven of them. You should aspire to be more like Express, minus the price.
I hope we can work through this.
Love,
Danny
So, the show is over.
It’s over.
It’s over?
I don’t know why, but I feel strangely disappointed that this whole things is done. That’s the thing about theater, is that your profession has a profound effect on your disposition; you’re elated on opening night and you’re on the performance euphoria, but the morning after closing night can be extremely empty.
This time last week, I honestly thought that we were screwed. We had half of our lights and almost none of our sound system. Not to mention, the kids barely knew their lines and blocking. But it really did come together very nicely. All of our equipment arrived on time and worked amazingly well and the children really got their acts together. Closing night was our best show and probably one of the largest audiences that we have had in the history of the program (70 – 80 people?).
So all in all, I’m extremely proud of everybody and I’m very glad to have worked on this show. I know that I learned a ton from the children and hopefully they took away from me even a tenth of what I learned from them.
That being said, I am eager to get back to real life. I want to sleep and be able to watch TV and do my homework early in the afternoon. Christmas is eleven days away (a harrowing thought). I haven’t bought ANYTHING for anybody. I have some ideas, but I haven’t actually bought anything, nor do I have any money with which to buy gifts. But, as I’ve learned in theater, it will all work out amazingly.
