Pink Martini

I just discovered the band Pink Martini and I’m deeply in love. I’m not quite sure how to describe their sound, but it’s like jazz/pop/latin/blues music in three different languages. It’s very classy and low-key.

One song that I find particularly striking, however, is Oú est ma tête? (Where is my head?). It’s completely in French but it’s so romantic and beautiful and I really feel this song. Check it out below! (Google for the lyrics in English, they’re not as beautiful as the French but they’re still romantic).

Emo or Stage Manager? You Decide!

I don’t think I know anybody else wears so much black/dark blue. I was doing laundry today and realized that the majority of my clothes are very dark. Oh, well…at least I can pull it off!

Why Yes!

“It’s not easy to break out of your comfort zone. People will tear you down, tell you you shouldn’t have bothered in the first place. But let me tell you something: there’s not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you. They’re both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they’re cheering for you. You do that and some day they will.”

I Randomly Felt Like Posting About TV

I’m not totally feeling Top Chef this season.  Maybe it’s just because it’s the beginning of the season and they’re still weeding out the competition, but it feels very slow.  Or I’m just crazy (probably this one).

I’m loving Flipping Out.  Team Lewis is back and better than ever.  Real Housewives of Atlanta has also been delivering.  I love me some NeNe!  I particularly enjoyed the wig pull heard ’round-the-world.

Summer television has been pretty good but I’m also looking forward to getting back to the regular season.  I miss Lost, Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation and The Office and I’m looking forward to finding some new shows to obsess over since a few of my favorites got canceled last season.  Any suggestions?

How true!

Everybody Cut Footloose!

It’s August already? Where did July go?!

Footloose opened last night and it was spectacular!  We were sold out by 7 and we played to a packed house.  The audience was fantastic and very receptive to everything.  I didn’t miss any light or sound cues and there were no other major show-related crisis.  All in all, it was a wonderful evening.

The only problem was that I fell down the steps and broke my flip flop when I was rushing to call places.  I felt fine last night (except for, of course, my broken shoe) but this morning my ankle is killing me.  I do realize that I should have been waring closed-toe shoes and not flip flops and so therefore this was totally preventable and completely my fault.  Hopefully the swelling will go down before tonight’s show.

We also were featured in the Howard County Times!  Our review from the Times and from BroadwayWorld.com are still pending but I’ll be sure to post links when they’re published.

I love my cast & crew.  This is probably one of my favorite shows that I’ve ever worked on and I’m going to be pretty sad when it’s over.

Dear Sacha Baron Cohen,

Indubitably, you are a pretty funny dude.  However, I found myself in an awkward position yesterday when I was at a newsstand in the Indianapolis airport trying to find some magazines to read on my flight.  I like to read GQ in the summer, so I tried to find the latest issue amongst the myriad of tech, workout, celeb, cooking, and news magazines.  When I finally found GQ, I was happy to see that you were featured on the cover of the July issue.  However, I could have done without the full nudity and provocative pose on the cover. (see picture here)

I really wasn’t disturbed by the shot (I found it to be quite hilarious), however it was awkward always trying to hide GQ behind the copy of People en Espanol that I also picked up.  And on the plane, I ended up sitting next to a cute old lady who was terrified of flying and who, I decided, probably had no interest in seeing you “bare all” (or most).  Subsequently, I had to keep obscuring the cover whilst reading the magazine, which was an unwelcome inconvenience.

Next time, please put some clothes on.  Or at least move your crazy nude shots off of the cover.  But other than that, keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Danny

Validation!

Last night, I had my moment of validity, a.k.a. my “So Much Better” moment (if we can speak in Legally Blonde terminology)!  I had been totally nervous and scared of messing up majorly for the show that I’m working on right now, but evidently I am doing a great job and not messing up majorly and burning the show down to the ground!  I love moments like this (some people wait a lifetime! was that a bad music joke?). :]

I went out to lunch with Cara today and we had the best time.  It was awesome for us to catch up on what was going on with each other and to spill the beans on some stuff that we had been holding in for way too long.  I feel so much better about a ton of stuff now.  We literally sat at Panera for four hours and just dished it to eachother and it was fantastic.
