2009 In Review

Now that 2009 is coming to a close, I felt that it would be appropriate to take a look back at the past 12 months. As I have done in previous years (2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 [2004 is lost forever]) I’ve listed a few of the most entertaining, influential, impaction, etc. aspects of 2009 as I saw them through my eyes. However, I’m not running it awards-style this year. Why not? Because I don’t feel like it! Let’s just focus on the positive as 2009, truly a year of change, wraps itself up.

On a similar note, I’d like to go ahead and remark that the last decade has absolutely flown by. I remember where I was ten years ago today (Y2K hype, anybody?) and I have changed tremendously since then. I thought of doing a decade-in-review sort of deal but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. For some reason, I’m not quite ready to forge ahead into 2010, a year that will bring about even more change than 2009 did.

But that’s enough of my rambling, here’s my year in review:

Blogs of 2009

  • Cake Wrecks – I still love this blog. The cakes have gotten even more hilarious/disgusting/appalling/etc. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you haven’t!
  • Bravo Fan – Where has this blog been all of my life? It’s a perfect roundup of news from the entire Bravo universe, and the author, Maria, is hilarious. Oh, and I was a featured reader in August!
  • Another Flight Attendant Writing – Heather Poole is a fantastic writer (looking forward to her books!) with tons of hilarious stories to share.

TV Shows of 2009

  • Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List – Still hilarious after all these years.
  • Lost – Don’t even know what to say. Lost is still Lost. It’s suspenseful, sentimental, entertaining and an all-around wonderful show. I’m looking forward to the sixth (and final) season in 2010, but I will certainly miss this show!
  • Glee – Love the music, choreography, cast and writing. Can’t wait for it to return in the spring!
  • Parks & Recreation – Amy Poehler is fantastic. I could watch the same episode over and over again and still laugh.
  • The Office – Enough said.
  • Real Housewives of Atlanta, NYC, New Jersey, OC – WHO GONNA CHECK ME, BOO? Love these trainwrecks.
  • (I watch a lot of TV)

Theatre of 2009

  • Footloose – A fantastic learning experience and a wonderful cast!
  • The Music Man – Children! Oh my.
  • High School Musical 2 – Loved the directors I worked with.
  • Annie – My first professional credit. :)
  • A Spell of Cold Weather - A great holiday show, very heartwarming!
  • Sleeping Beauty – A fun show to board op. Cast was very talented.

YouTube Channels of 2009

  • CTFxC – I started out loving Charles & Alli when she was in Spain but I’ve followed them back to the US and still love their vlogs
  • iJustine – She’s hilarious. Everything she does has me laughing out loud!
  • Johnnyboy – She’s pretty funny, too, in a sarcastic way.

iPhone Apps of 2009

  • I Am T-Pain – Good times with this app in fifth period.
  • Jellycar 2 – Not as great as the original but still a lot of fun.
  • Scramble – This game basically was my entire second semester Food & Nutrition class.
  • Lemonade Tycoon – Addicting. That’s all I will say.
  • iheartradio – This was a lifesaver when my car radio pooped out.

To my readers (if there are any of you left): Happy New Year, and may you have a fantastic year to come. Welcome 2010!

Happy Fifth Blogiversary To Me!

Wow, has it really been five years? I first started blogging on August 22, 2004. How time flies!

38/365: Blog Redesign

I’ve spent the past couple of days working on the next incarnation of my blog. This will be my first major redesign in almost two years and it’s looking good right now! This is only a small preview, the rest of it is launching on June 1.

HOLY CRAP! 1000th POST!

How could I not notice this??  I posted my one thousandth blog entry on Tuesday (April 28th)!  It only took four and a half years, but I finally got there!  My thousandth entry was my post from Friday about being bored to tears.  This is so exciting!  I’ve been waiting for this day for almost five years and it’s finally here.  I’m elated. :)

For those of you who want to delve into the past, there are archive listings in the sidebar and I’ve also been compiling a list of “best of” posts.

Here’s to a thousand more posts!

Change Is In The Air

Today is a day of honesty.

I’ve really let my blog die over the past year. About this I feel horrible. Considering that I’ve been blogging now for five years and that I’m now paying for this site out of my own pocket, I think I owe it to myself to put some more time and effort into blogging. So, I have a new spring/summer resolution. I want to give my blog a complete makeover and come back bigger and badder than ever.

Over the next month or so, I’m going to work on a total redesign that will be ready just in time for summer.  After my redesign is up, I  want to dedicate myself to posting more frequently and writing better posts.  I would love to do something sort of like Dooce does where my Project 365 posts are a separate part of the site and my text entries are the focus, but that’s gonna require some planning and thinking.

I know that I can do this, it’s just going to take time, so bear with me and prepare for an amazing summer. :)

A Resolution

Alright, I’ve really neglected my blog over the past few months and I feel bad. So, I’m going to turn over a new leaf and try my darndest to blog more regularly this summer. All of the craziness that happened today was kind of like a wakeup call for me, and it’s one that I’ve desperately needed. I know that I didn’t really explain what happened in my last post, so I’ll do it now.

I received an email from my host saying that I had used too much disk space and needed to do some housekeeping. I logged into my blog to try and see if there was anything in particular that was taking up so much space, and I found a bunch of really old backups. I decided to purge the older ones and ended up deleting everything. So now, I have nothing but my blog. I lost all of the themes/plugins that I had uploaded for my blog, but those can be replaced. What cannot be replaced and what I am sad/worried about is the fact that I lost all of my uploads (the images in blog posts) and the design for my Independent Research project, which is due on Monday. I’m trying to obtain a backup, but things are looking bleek.

So that’s what happened today. But back to the summer thing. I’m going to start blogging and vlogging regularly. Hopefully, things will actually be going on that I can blog about over the summer.

For me, summer officially starts in six days. I have full days of school on Monday and Tuesday and then exams from Wednesday to Friday (which means half-days). I have a party on Friday night, and then I’m getting my molars surgically removed the next Monday (6/16), which means that I’ll be spending the first few days of summer laying in bed, getting pumped with oxycodone. At least I can get those painful little bitches out.

Then, UHL starts Friday. I can’t wait. :)

Oh, God.

Sweet Jesus, what was I thinking three years ago? Were my writing skills (or lack thereof) really that…horrendous? OMG Gawd, u wuld think dat i could have wrote betta kuz yay!!!!!!!!! :-P and junk!!!!!!!! ~DaNnY. Gross. I don’t think that I’m ever going to be able to live with myself after reading that…oh, god. How could I even publish that? Had I ever heard of proofreading back then? Or spelling? And writing in acronyms…don’t even get me started! How childish. These days, however, correct spelling, correct grammar, and advanced vocabulary are of paramount importance when I write.

Alright, so have you seen the video of the Baltimore cop who seems like a complete you-know-what yet? If you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, here it is. As a native Baltimorian, I am disgusted. Not only am I appalled by that guy’s behavior, but haven’t those kids ever heard of the fifth amendment? Due process of the law? Protection from self-incrimination? Eminent domain? The right to plead the fifth? If I was in that situation, I would have demanded compensation for the skateboard that he unjustly seized and then refused to give him my name/address/phone number. Bitch, please!

I’m so done with the weather here in Maryland. Florida was….beautiful. It really was. And here, it’s just gross. The air is dry and it’s freezing. In Florida, it was warm, sunny, breezy, and the air wasn’t dry (but it wasn’t extremely humid, either). I can’t wait for summer, and all of the awesome stuff that comes with it. I’m looking forward to the UHL show this year. We don’t know what it is yet, but I miss the people and the experience. June cannot come fast enough. I have a super-early case of Senioritis.

Just Sayin’…

So, now that blogging is getting pretty big at Long Reach, I just want to take this opportunity to point out that I’ve been blogging since before it was cool (three years, for those of you who want to de exact). I’m just sayin’…

By the way, my Disney post is coming soon. I have another surprise coming, too.
