2008 In Review: The Winners

Upon the conclusion of every year, I find it integral to reflect upon the events that have transpired over the past 366 days (leap year!). I have chosen to remember 2008 based upon the cultural facets that it defined for itself. I announced the categories nominees for my 2008 in review awards yesterday, and today I am proud to present the winners.

The winner(s) from each category are boldfaced.

2008 In Review

Well folks, it’s that time of year again.  I’m proud to present the nominees for my fifth annual (2007 2006 2005 [2004 is lost forever]) year-in-review post.  This post is a retrospect of the aspects of pop culture that I feel most heavily defined 2008 and it covers everything from technology to entertainment.

Dear Dooce: I Still Heart You.

I think many people are afraid that if they take medication or even agree to see a therapist that they are in some way admitting failure or defeat. Or they have been told by their boyfriend or their mother or their best friend that they should buck up and get over it, and that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Well then, let me be weak. Let me be a failure. Because being over here on this side, where I see and think clearly, where I’m happy to greet my child in the morning, where I can logically maneuver my way over tiny obstacles that would have previously been the end of the world, over here being a failure is a hell of a lot more enjoyable than the constant misery of suffering alone. #

Dear Dooce: I Heart You.

We don’t recommend buying children at the grocery store – Yeah, I’d have to agree with you.

Random Web Snippets, Categories, and Ghetto Flip Flops

My mind is in a mental fog right now, so I’m afraid that today’s post is just going to be a couple of random snippets.

Dooce thinks that Cetaphil looks like semen. I agree with her; that’s why I use the clear gel kind.

The Bloggie Award winners were announced today. I disagree with most of them. So does Kitta.

Apple stores rock. I want to work in one of them.

I’ve realized that my categories system on this blog really isn’t working. I’m going to work on re-vamping it to include better categories such as TV, music, etc. since I’ve been blogging about those things lately. You can probably say goodbye to Current Events, Rant!, The Arts’ subcategories, and possibly Song of The Moment.

Okay, so this post motivated me to revamp my categories. The following categories have been deprecated:

  • All subcategories of “The Arts” (Grease, Godspell, etc.)
  • School

In addition, Current Events has been renamed “El Mundo”, which is where I’m going to put general stuff that doesn’t have to do with me. “The Arts” is now “Arts & Entertainment”, which includes music, TV, theater, etc. “Listing” and “Song of the Moment” have been moved under “Me, Myself, and I”, and some minor changes have been made to the archives page. “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and “Imported Posts” are both uncategorized posts from my WordPress.com and Blogspot blogs. I’m probably going to change these around a bit later…but until then, I’m gonna leave them be.

The weather today was beautiful…it was about 70 degrees. I’m loving it! I was still walking around in jeans and a hoodie, but some of the uber-preps broke out their ugly polos, horrible plaid prep shorts, and $40 pairs of flip flops. I think they over-did it. When summer arrives for good, I’ll take my Kohl’s cargo shorts, hoodies, and $5 Old Navy flip flops any day!
