2009 In Review

Now that 2009 is coming to a close, I felt that it would be appropriate to take a look back at the past 12 months. As I have done in previous years (2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 [2004 is lost forever]) I’ve listed a few of the most entertaining, influential, impaction, etc. aspects of 2009 as I saw them through my eyes. However, I’m not running it awards-style this year. Why not? Because I don’t feel like it! Let’s just focus on the positive as 2009, truly a year of change, wraps itself up.

On a similar note, I’d like to go ahead and remark that the last decade has absolutely flown by. I remember where I was ten years ago today (Y2K hype, anybody?) and I have changed tremendously since then. I thought of doing a decade-in-review sort of deal but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. For some reason, I’m not quite ready to forge ahead into 2010, a year that will bring about even more change than 2009 did.

But that’s enough of my rambling, here’s my year in review:

Blogs of 2009

  • Cake Wrecks – I still love this blog. The cakes have gotten even more hilarious/disgusting/appalling/etc. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you haven’t!
  • Bravo Fan – Where has this blog been all of my life? It’s a perfect roundup of news from the entire Bravo universe, and the author, Maria, is hilarious. Oh, and I was a featured reader in August!
  • Another Flight Attendant Writing – Heather Poole is a fantastic writer (looking forward to her books!) with tons of hilarious stories to share.

TV Shows of 2009

  • Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List – Still hilarious after all these years.
  • Lost – Don’t even know what to say. Lost is still Lost. It’s suspenseful, sentimental, entertaining and an all-around wonderful show. I’m looking forward to the sixth (and final) season in 2010, but I will certainly miss this show!
  • Glee – Love the music, choreography, cast and writing. Can’t wait for it to return in the spring!
  • Parks & Recreation – Amy Poehler is fantastic. I could watch the same episode over and over again and still laugh.
  • The Office – Enough said.
  • Real Housewives of Atlanta, NYC, New Jersey, OC – WHO GONNA CHECK ME, BOO? Love these trainwrecks.
  • (I watch a lot of TV)

Theatre of 2009

  • Footloose – A fantastic learning experience and a wonderful cast!
  • The Music Man – Children! Oh my.
  • High School Musical 2 – Loved the directors I worked with.
  • Annie – My first professional credit. :)
  • A Spell of Cold Weather - A great holiday show, very heartwarming!
  • Sleeping Beauty – A fun show to board op. Cast was very talented.

YouTube Channels of 2009

  • CTFxC – I started out loving Charles & Alli when she was in Spain but I’ve followed them back to the US and still love their vlogs
  • iJustine – She’s hilarious. Everything she does has me laughing out loud!
  • Johnnyboy – She’s pretty funny, too, in a sarcastic way.

iPhone Apps of 2009

  • I Am T-Pain – Good times with this app in fifth period.
  • Jellycar 2 – Not as great as the original but still a lot of fun.
  • Scramble – This game basically was my entire second semester Food & Nutrition class.
  • Lemonade Tycoon – Addicting. That’s all I will say.
  • iheartradio – This was a lifesaver when my car radio pooped out.

To my readers (if there are any of you left): Happy New Year, and may you have a fantastic year to come. Welcome 2010!

My “Secret” Board

Ashley and I made our “The Secret” boards tonight.  I sort of made one last year when I hung a picture of an iPhone on my wall but I decided to update it for this summer. Here is my new board:

The contents of my board, in no particular order: 2009 Jeep Compass (driving my parents’ 2004 Liberty right now, need my own wheels!), MacBook Pro (my mother just got one for work – it is amazing!), the Eiffel tower as a symbol for a European vacation and learning French, and money…it makes the world go ’round! Also pictured is an iPhone 3G (put it on the board last July and guess what I got on August 21, 2008!), my Kathy Griffin shrine to the left, and a coupon to California Tortilla.

Schoolwork

This was my entire year’s worth of schoolwork (with a water bottle for scale).  It was a killer year and it was very empowering to throw the entire pile into the recycling bin.

I think I need to clear some space on my bulletin board.

I bought a new keyboard today!  My old Apple Pro Keyboard (picture here) finally kicked the bucket after three years; the right shift key and several of the keys on the number pad mysteriously all stopped working at once (which leads me to believe that somebody may have caused this malfunction), so I drove to the Apple store today and bought the amazing new keyboard (and by “new” I mean that it was new for me).  It’s aluminum and extremely thin and it just looks cool!  I love it!

Whilst browsing at the Apple store, I came across the iPhone 3G S and instantly fell in love.  I will be buying one first thing on January 24, 2010 when I become eligible for an upgrade at AT&T.  I’m super excited. :)

Today In Letters

Dear Blue Van,
Sorry for cutting you off.  I wasn’t really paying enough attention while turning.  Hope you’re not too pissed at me.

Dear PNC Bank ATM,
Suck it!  You slapped with a $3 surcharge to withdraw $5 even after I hit the cancel button!

Dear GoPhone,
It’s sucked been nice but I’m sick of you and your inability to do…well, anything, really.  I’m so ready to get my replacement iPhone tonight.  I’ve felt so deprived and disconnected for the past three days.

Dear Top Chef Masters,
I’m excited for your premiere tonight!  Although I will miss Padma and Gail, you look promising and entertaining.  I miss my Wednesday night food porn!

Dear humidity,
Go away.

Love,
Danny

37/365 TWOOSH!

I love seeing this whenever I post a tweet that is exactly 140 characters (a Twoosh) to Twitter via Twitterriffic on my iPhone. It’s so rewarding!

Does This Make Me Vain?

31/365: New iPhone Case

I ordered a new iPhone case last week from Senyx (via Amazon) and it came in the mail yesterday!  The case is a CaseCrown iPhone 3G Soft Polycarbonate Slim Fit Case that came with a free(?) screen protector.  But here’s the cool part – the screen protector is like a mirror!  It makes my iPhone like the LG Shine.  When the LCD is off, there is a “mirror”, but when the LCD is turned back on the “mirror” is a screen.

The best part of this whole package was the price.  It was around $9 for the case and the screen protector.  Granted, the case is nothing special; it won’t protect my phone from gunshots or a fall from the fiftieth floor, but it’ll absorb a lot of impact if I just casually drop it.  Regardless, this was a great deal and I love the case (it comes in a bunch of colors, too.  I’m debating picking up a few more in different colors).  But the best part is defeinitely the screen protector.  Now I can look at myself whenever I want to!

Saving Wildlife, One Turtle At A Time

So, I walked outside this afternoon to get the mail and there was a turtle sitting outside on the sidewalk!  He was all curled up inside his shell and I was afraid that he was gonna lay in there and bake to death because the weather is finally season-appropriate.  I thought for a minute about picking him up and taking him to the forest (or at least the grass) but I was afraid that he would bite me and give me tetanus or rabies or something so I just took a picture of him and kept walking.  I’m guessing he did not die and was able to retreat to a shadier place because he’s no longer anywhere that I can see him.

But the whole reason that I was getting the mail was because I was expecting a parcel containing a new iPhone case.  And it came today!  It’s a pretty dinky (but still cool-looking) silver plastic case but it came with a mirror screen protector.  So now, whenever my iPhone is sleeping and the screen is off, I have an awesome mirror.

(PS – this is 30/365).

11/365: Insomnia!

I need to go to friggin’ bed. And so does my iPhone. Her battery is about to die!
