The First of Many

Last night, I had my first stage manager dream/nightmare about Music Man.  It wasn’t that bad, but I want to chronicle it so that I can look back later and laugh.

First of all, every single set piece was made of cardboard.  Including a staircase.  No, I’m not taking about a reinforced wooden frame that was covered in cardboard.  I’m talking about a bunch of boxes that were duct-taped together and called set pieces.  Besides being a huge safety hazard, it was impossible to move them because they were so flimsy and they kept turning inside-out.

Second, the venue was FREAKY.  It was the DLC theater inisde the Mount View cafeteria that was inside the Mayfield building (and my old band teacher was there).  But to be honest I would prefer this because we actually had wingspace and a backstage and real lighting and monitor speakers and BLACK CURTAINS and a black stage floor and I didn’t have to drive across the county to go to rehearsal.

Third, the assistant director (tboll) went wackadoo.  I had no idea what she was doing or saying.

Fourth, Briana was in the show and had to make out with the little middle school kid who is playing Harold.

Fifth, somebody decided to pull out the second act of The Music Man and replace it with the second act of The Wiz.  It was an interesting interpolation…patriotic Winkies dancing around with new band instruments.

And sixth, I was dressed hideously.  I was wearing an olive/green t-shirt under a bright pink vest.  I think that was the worst part of the dream.

Nightmare!

Wow, I just had a really…..wierd nightmare. Here’s the setting:

We took like a class trip to Disney World. It was everybody from school, everybody from drama, and Chelsea. We were watching old Disney movies in this theater (which is non-existant) in MGM Studios. Recently, there have been hauntings by a ghost all through the park, so everybody is on their toes.

Mrs. Mindi needed duct tape for something so she sent Tommy down to this little office that was accessible via a door on the wall to see if the guy in there had any duct tape. It was empty. She asked Tommy if there was a phone down there and he yelled up that there wasn’t.

I went down just to double check and I found four phones. A fire phone and three regular phones. I picked up each of the three regular phones to try and call and see if there was some way I could get some duct tape, but the lines were all really weak, like a bad cell signal.

That’s where the “action” begins. Just then, this huge scary guy came storming through the door of the theater and told everybody to get down. I grabbed Tommy and Chelsea (who was sitting right next to the office) and pulled them down to the ground, and everybody else in the theater got down on the ground. The guy, luckily, hadn’t noticed us four yet.

So, I noticed that there were computer screens attatched to the backs of seats in the theater, so I grabbed one. On it I found the CPanel for Iris Studios, the former host of GKWC which just creeped me out beyond anything. I tried to close out of it so I could maybe email for help, but it wasn’t working. Finally, the window closed and I found a webcam image from the blacktop at Mayfield, and it looked like there was some kind of hostage situation there, too. People were running around, scared, and I had no idea what was going on.

I thought that if I could reach the fire phone that was attatchd to the fire alarm, I could call for help. The only problem is that it was attatched to a fire alarm, which was pretty high up on the wall.  Ignoring the possibilty of being spotted, I lunged for the phone.

And I woke up.
