Happy Fifth Blogiversary To Me!

Wow, has it really been five years? I first started blogging on August 22, 2004. How time flies!

38/365: Blog Redesign

I’ve spent the past couple of days working on the next incarnation of my blog. This will be my first major redesign in almost two years and it’s looking good right now! This is only a small preview, the rest of it is launching on June 1.

Heads Up

Just wanted to let all seven of my readers know that I’m currently in the process of transferring my site over to a new server. The whole process is usually kind of unpredictable, so things might be a bit rough for the next 36 hours. Fear not, I’ll be back soon enough and everything will be back to normal (or, hopefully, better than normal!).

See you on the flipside!

Update: If you’re reading this, I’m on the new server.

HOLY CRAP! 1000th POST!

How could I not notice this??  I posted my one thousandth blog entry on Tuesday (April 28th)!  It only took four and a half years, but I finally got there!  My thousandth entry was my post from Friday about being bored to tears.  This is so exciting!  I’ve been waiting for this day for almost five years and it’s finally here.  I’m elated. :)

For those of you who want to delve into the past, there are archive listings in the sidebar and I’ve also been compiling a list of “best of” posts.

Here’s to a thousand more posts!

Change Is In The Air

Today is a day of honesty.

I’ve really let my blog die over the past year. About this I feel horrible. Considering that I’ve been blogging now for five years and that I’m now paying for this site out of my own pocket, I think I owe it to myself to put some more time and effort into blogging. So, I have a new spring/summer resolution. I want to give my blog a complete makeover and come back bigger and badder than ever.

Over the next month or so, I’m going to work on a total redesign that will be ready just in time for summer.  After my redesign is up, I  want to dedicate myself to posting more frequently and writing better posts.  I would love to do something sort of like Dooce does where my Project 365 posts are a separate part of the site and my text entries are the focus, but that’s gonna require some planning and thinking.

I know that I can do this, it’s just going to take time, so bear with me and prepare for an amazing summer. :)

Badness!

I was hacked?!?!  Somebody hacked into my blog…I’m trying to clean everything up right now.  Details coming later.

Design Frustration

So, I’ve been working on my holiday layout like I said I was earlier, and it’s actually coming along very nicely, except for a few problems.

  • I can’t find a decent falling snow script. I know, it sounds really dumb that I want it to be snowing on my blog, but I think it’s really cool! In years past, I’ve used this script from Dynamic Drive, but it’s not working that well now…it screws up scrolling in Firefox, and it falls all over the page. I want a script that only allows snow to fall behind the main content box. ContentRobot has a really cool script that makes it snow in your header, but sadly I’m not using the Kubrick theme (I design on Sandbox- it’s amazing!).
  • I can’t decide whether or not to center my content or to left-justify it. Left-justify looks cool, but it feels unbalanced.
  • I’m getting the feeling that there’s too much of one color in my design…the majority of it is red, but it’s a nice red that has a few accents in it. I want to find another accent color, but I’m having a hard time.
  • I’m not sure if I should design some custom icons…not that important, but…

Other than that, it’s coming along amazingly. I can’t wait to finish it and put it up live. :)

A Mexican Christmas in October

So, I’m almost done writing my two papers for English class and I decided to take a break and blog.

I’m already working on my Christmas design for this year…I have a feeling that it’s going to use one of these headers from iStockphoto. I’m still conceptualizing the design, but I know that I’m gonna bring back the falling snow that we all love so much. I think the color scheme is going to be either blue or red, maybe green (but probably not).

But beyond that, I haven’t really come up with anything else. I still have about a month before my December 1st deadline, which is plenty of time. I’m gonna wow you this year. :)

Oh, and the “Mexican” in the “Mexican Christmas in October”? I just had a really tasty burrito. It was heaven on earth.

Something New

After October is over, I’m debating whether or not to put up a new theme before the holiday season.  Right now, my blog is Pink for October, but I’m looking to change it back after October.  I love supporting such a great cause, and I think that my design is pretty awesome, but I’m not really into the whole “pink” part.

If I decide to design something new (as opposed to returning to Blueberry Dreams), I don’t really want it to be blue.  I’ve been blue for a probably a year now (maybe even more), so I’m thinking of using a new color.  Orange or green, maybe?  Orange would be a good color for November; it’s nice and harvest-y.  Green might be a better spring color….I haven’t decided yet.  I’ll probably do a orange/brown theme.  Something new and interesting!

But, then comes December.  I want to design my own Christmas theme this year.  In the past, I haven’t really designed my own; I’ve either used a pre-made theme or just used a holiday-esque header.  I want to go all out this year.  Yes, I’m gonna bring back the snowflakes!  I have no concept for the Christmas design yet, but I promise that it’s gonna kick butt.  :)

I love the holidays…I wish they’d come sooner!
