When I went to bed last night, there were two inches of snow on the ground even though it had been snowing for seven hours. Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and 25 more inches had fallen overnight! At 5:21 PM EST, there are 31 inches of snow on my deck. This is outrageous! (Oh, and the sun came out as soon as it stopped snowing! When does that happen?)

27 inches of snow when I woke up.

The snow was above my bedroom window. Granted, my bedroom is in the basement but the snow rarely comes up to the window.

I got snow on my ankles on the very first step outside. I thought they were bundled up nicely but the snow still got through (the snow was up to my thighs!).

A winter wonderland? That phrase doesn’t work so well after Christmas.

There was enough snow to make an igloo! It was a lot of fun.

You couldn’t even see most of the younger kids over the piles of snow.

First time I’ve ever seen those trees bent that far over. You can also see in this picture how windy it was – there was snow blowing all over the place.

Final count: 31 inches. We haven’t seen a plow since yesterday, I doubt I’ll be going anywhere any time soon.

Two years ago today, it was seventy degrees and sunny outside. Today, it is seventeen degrees outside (four if you factor in windchill) and there is six inches of snow on the ground. Wow.

I went to Becca’s house today. We went sledding and then hung out. It was fun, but I am pooped. The snow was nice but I am so ready for spring. I think I am in my prime when it is warm outside; I am more focused and inspired and I have more motivation. But when it is cold and bleak? Not so much.

Yeah, I know I look like crap. My hair is greasy and disheveled and I look like a pot head. And Becca looks like an old woman.

Oh, and happy birthday @uhlfreak!

What month is it? I feel like the hands on my body clock have been spinning so fast that they flew off, leaving me dazed and confused.

I’ll start at the beginning. We had midterm exams two weeks ago. We were scheduled to have the Monday after midterms off. That evening it snowed two or three inches and we had off of school on Tuesday. Then, on Tuesday evening it iced and we had off on Wednesday, also. After being off for almost a whole week, I was discombobulated enough and felt like we had winter break all over again.

We had a two-day week last week, which threw me off even more. Then, yesterday, it was 60 degrees. I had to check myself and remember that it was February. The warm weather is still lingering today (it’s 50 degrees at the moment), but it’s supposed to snow tonight.

Help me.

Back in the good ol’ days, it was reguarly below freezing. It seemed like every year there was at least one snowstorm that left us with 2 feet of snow and closed school for a couple of days.

The last huge blizzard that we had was when I was in fifth grade over President’s Day weekend 2002. It was epic; there was no school for a week and it literally snowed for four days straight. Every morning there was fresh new snow to play in (and shovel). Walking down the sidewalk was like walking through a tunnel because the snow was piled up so high around us.

But, alas, this hasn’t happened in a while. It hasn’t even been cold enough for that to happen since then. These days, the snow that we get is only allowed to stay frozen while it’s snowing because the next day, when the storm is gone, it gets sunny and warm and the snow all melts.

Last weekend would have been a perfect time for a blizzard because it has been bitterly freezing here all week. The temperature has seldom risen about 25 degrees (it hasn’t been above 20 for the past two or three days!) so the snow could actually hang around for a while before it melts.

Did it snow? Of course not!

There has been tons of ice, though. I have fond memories of late-90′s elementary school. Every morning during the winter there was always a patch of frozen ice that we would “skate” on while we waited for the bus. Until this week, I hadn’t seen it since then. It was fun to see it again.

And in addition to the nostalgic ice patch on the street, the creek behind my house has frozen completely over. The ice is not enough to walk all the way over, but it is frozen nonetheless.

(Yes, I was wearing my pajamas.)

Now all we need is some FREAKING SNOW!

I woke up this morning and it really hit me: Christmas is in two days. I guess that’s the cost of growing up; the holiday season gets lost in the hustle and bustle of December, and by the time it hits you it’s almost too late. Although it is nice to not be constantly pining for presents for the entire month of December, I do genuinely enjoy the atmosphere of Christmas and the joy that it brings. And now, there are really only two (three, if you count today) days left of it. December 26 may possibly be my least favorite day of the year because everything is just…over. Most of the celebrations are over and the thrill of presents has begun to wear off. Life just gets normal again. Of course, there is always New Years, but that’s never been too large of an affair to me.

That being said, I am looking forward to my 2008 year-in-review post (my fifth annual!). Have a safe and happy Christmas, Internet.

I feel like I am carrying a child in my stomach that is nine months along and am beginning to want an abortion even though I am already past the point of no return.

And there’s still dessert.

This year, I woke up and it was 65 degrees outside and the leaves were sorta brown (mostly green and some orange/red) and mostly on the trees. And the turkeys were notably absent.

You have let me down.

Love,

Remember the amazing Old Navy coat that I found back in August that I resolved to purchase someday? Well, I ordered it last week and it came on Tuesday! And it is amazing, as always. I truly love it, and the best part is that I got it on clearance for $30 (marked down from $45).

But, um, I’m kind of having an affair. With a different coat. A black wool peacoat from Old Navy.

Isn’t it pretty cool? I would totally snatch it up and just rotate between my brown parka coat, my new brown plaid 50′s-esque jacket, and this coat except for the fact that this coat is $70. But now I feel really bad that I feel bad about my new coat.

My life sucks.

But in other news, I’m going to be making my rounds soon to buy winter clothing. And by “my rounds”, I mean I’ll drop in on Old Navy and H&M (and possibly The Gap, Aeropostalé, and American Eagle if there are good sales) and hope to find something good, although frankly I am feeling quite uninspired by the fall collections.

Wish me luck.
